Nils Petter Molvær and Daniel Herskedal

When two of Norway’s most distinctive and innovative jazz musicians come together, a musical space emerges in which sound, depth, and spontaneity take centre stage.

Trumpeter and composer Nils Petter Molvær has for several decades been one of the most influential figures in modern jazz. With his characteristic trumpet sound and groundbreaking use of electronics, he has helped redefine the possibilities of jazz and opened the door to a more ambient, cinematic, and genre-crossing expression.

Daniel Herskedal, for his part, has renewed the role of the tuba in contemporary jazz. With a rare combination of virtuosic technique, melodic sensitivity, and aesthetic innovation, he creates musical landscapes that are deep, airy, and unique. Herskedal draws impulses just as naturally from classical music and folk music as from modern jazz, and is known for shaping complex, almost cinematic sound worlds.

As Molvær and Herskedal now form a duo, two strong artistic voices from two generations meet — each with his own sonic world, but with a shared gaze towards the limitless and exploratory. The interplay between Molvær’s atmospheric trumpet and electronic textures and Herskedal’s powerful yet lyrical tuba creates a space that is both intimate and expansive.

The music balances between improvisation and composition, between the airy and the earthbound, between tradition and the future.

The result is an expression that is cinematic, emotional, and deeply original — a musical dialogue that opens new horizons and invites the audience into a landscape where sound is allowed to breathe, grow, and surprise.
